Registered Nurse - Outpatient infusion

The Nurse Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the clinic setting. The position is located at Central Virginia VA Health Care System, Richmond, Virginia.

• This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. BSN is preferred At least 2 years of infusion clinic, Radiation oncology, or, medical oncology preferred At least 1 year case management or coordination of care is preferred Related ANCC certification preferred (i.e., CRNI, OCN) Chemotherapy certification preferred Core Clinical Duties Review medical history, perform physical assessments, and determine infusion needs before treatment. Deliver medications, biologics, IV antibiotics, steroids, blood products, and other IV therapies according to physician orders. Insert, secure, and monitor peripheral IVs, PICC lines, or implanted ports, ensuring proper function and preventing complications. Watch for local (e.g., swelling, redness) or systemic reactions (e.g., changes in vital signs) and respond promptly. Set up infusion pumps, tubing, and catheters; maintain sterile techniques to prevent infection. Teach patients and families about the infusion process, potential side effects, and self-care for home treatments. Record vital signs, treatment details, patient responses, and any changes in condition in patient records.
