Licensed Practical Nurse (Women's Health, PACT) Hampton VA Medical Center - Hampton, Virginia The LPN provides care in a Women's Health setting. The incumbent is responsible and accountable for the provision of patient care and for delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population.

• Functions of Practice: LPN Scope of Practice in all steps of the nursing process is limited and focused because, by law, it is a dependent and directed scope of practice. LPN practice requires assignment or delegation by and performance under the supervision, orders, or directions of a registered nurse (RN), physician, dentist, or other person authorized by State law to provide the supervision. LPNs implement health care plans developed by the RN and/or by any person authorized by State law to prescribe such plan. Duties and Functions: Technically proficient in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Ability to acknowledge and report technical issues that may delay or impede productive work efforts. Completes and maintains compliance with mandatory Medical Center TMS training as assigned. Assists during emergent situations, initiates, and /or assist with CPR, choking, fire, emergencies, etc., and obtains equipment and supplies as requested by the RN or physician. Administers medication accurately and promptly under the general supervision of a RN. Demonstrates understanding of the effects and/or reactions caused by medications, treatments, and procedures. Records and reports these observations to RN. Performs personal care, diagnostic support duties and treatments according to procedure under the direction of the RN in a timely manner. Responds to patient's nursing needs, including physical comfort, and emotional needs and recognizing problems from the normal. Strive to involves patients and family to participate in the provision of care throughout the continuum. Participates and reinforces resources and referrals. Completes assignments in a timely manner with constructive utilization of remining time. Initiates, administer, assess, monitor, and report IV sites, start intravenous fluids and piggyback solutions prepared by Pharmacy. This involves monitoring IV fluids with/without medications, monitor flow of IV fluids, change IV tubing and IV site dressing, discontinues IV site. Discontinues blood products. Documents care provided as such. Independently established priorities and varies the sequence of nursing care based on the patient's conditions and/or response to treatment in or to accomplish assigned tasks with limited supervision by the end of tour. Participate in unit staff meetings (80% attendance unless excused by manager/supervisor) Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and is able to effectively work in a highpressure environment and maintain good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude. Demonstrates resilience in the face of setbacks. Builds an atmosphere of trust; communicates goals, objectives, and achievements to internal/external stakeholders. Uses effective time management; pro-actively seeks assignments when work is completed and is focused on completing tasks effectively, timely, and accurately. Establishes constructive relationships with individual patients and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication, and socialization skills. Fosters and environment of respect for individual patient and family rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery Retrieves data via computer, completes competency for assigned role, completes unit level activities and unit in-services according to Nursing Service policy/procedures.
