The Inpatient Surgery Nurse uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with the team (Patient, Specialty Care Provider, Pharmacists, and Clerical Associate) and expanded team (family member or caregiver, consulting providers, internal and community-based services involved in the care of the patient) in developing the patient-driven care plan for prevention and management of diseases.
- Major Duties/Functions include but not limited to: Monitors the use and maintenance of equipment, supply and use of stock and supplies, as well as environmental conditions and services. Establishes relevant reporting priorities as applicable to the role and establishes priorities for unit-based quality/performance improvement activities, while promoting evidence-based practices. Develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other members of the multi-disciplinary team as a means of providing high-quality, cost effective, and customer focused health care. Works in partnership with an assigned panel of patients and team members for effective disease and chronic care management. Provides evidenced-based patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention, and wellness based on the patient's goals. Focuses on his/her assigned patients and operations, and overseeing problems, referrals to other disciplines and/or services as appropriate. Reviews and accurately documents patient findings, assessments, and care provided in the medical record. Assigns staff to provide care based on staff competencies and identifies priorities to ensure safe and effective patients care. Demonstrates and/or verbalizes correct responses to emergencies as well as initiates effective action in emergencies. Initiates and utilizes positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation, teamwork, and effective interaction with internal and external customers.
