The Cardiovascular Technician / Non-Invasive Cardiology Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and clinical staff in a busy cardiology practice. This position is responsible for performing non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic testing, assisting with patient care activities, coordinating patient scheduling and prior authorizations, preparing patients and equipment for procedures, and ensuring efficient patient flow throughout the practice. The incumbent serves as an integral member of the cardiovascular care team and contributes to high-quality patient care and operational excellence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Post-secondary training in cardiovascular technology, medical assisting, patient care, or a related healthcare field preferred.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in a cardiology, medical office, or healthcare setting preferred.
• Experience performing electrocardiograms (EKGs/ECGs) preferred.
• Experience obtaining insurance authorizations and scheduling patients preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified EKG Technician (CET), or equivalent credential preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of cardiovascular terminology and diagnostic procedures.
• Ability to perform 12-lead EKGs accurately.
• Strong understanding of patient scheduling, insurance verification, and prior authorization processes.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and standard office software.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Experience: Experience preferred. Integral components consist of strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on collaborative team behaviors.

Certification: BLS certification is mandatory. Must be credentialed by the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist.

Coverage: In addition to regularly scheduled work days, the CVT provides scheduled on call coverage on a rotating basis during department off hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Clinical Duties

• Prepare patients for cardiovascular diagnostic testing and examinations.
• Obtain and record patient vital signs, medical history updates, and relevant clinical information.
• Perform and document 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs/EKGs) in accordance with established protocols.
• Prepare examination and procedure rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functional.
• Assist physicians and clinical staff during non-invasive cardiovascular procedures and patient evaluations.
• Ensure proper infection control and patient safety practices are maintained.
• Monitor and maintain clinical equipment, reporting malfunctioning equipment as necessary.

Patient Care Coordination

• Greet, identify, and escort patients throughout the clinic visit.
• Manage patient flow to maximize efficiency and minimize wait times.
• Prepare patient charts and schedules for upcoming clinic appointments.
• Provide patients with instructions and education regarding testing and appointments as directed.
• Assist in coordinating follow-up appointments, referrals, and diagnostic testing.

Administrative Duties

• Obtain and process insurance prior authorizations for diagnostic procedures and services.
• Confirm patient appointments and communicate necessary preparation instructions.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation within the electronic medical record system.
• Order and maintain clinical and office supplies as needed.
• Support scheduling activities and other practice operations to ensure smooth workflow.

Compliance and Quality

• Adhere to all HIPAA, regulatory, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings as requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the clinic.
• Ability to assist patients and transport equipment as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Manual dexterity required for operating medical equipment and computer systems.
• Visual acuity sufficient to review patient information and diagnostic data.

Work Environment

• Physician office and outpatient cardiology practice setting.
• Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff.
• Exposure to typical healthcare-related environmental conditions.

Salary Range: $18.33-$26.58 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
