This position is located at the Kerrville Community Living Center in Kerrville, TX VA Medical Center. The Registered Nurse (Assistant Nurse Manager) functions as a clinical expert and is responsible for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. This position is approximately 60% direct patient care and 40% administrative responsiblities.

  • The Community Living Center (CLC) in Kerrville, Texas is located on the campus of the Kerrville VA Medical Center at 3600 Memorial Blvd. As the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) you will support the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties as a Charge Nurse and responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operation of their designated units. Assist in the management of supplies, resources, and equipment for the area of responsibilities. Provide coverage for other ANMs as needed. You will have responsibility and accountability for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training and development of staff. Function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader to the team. Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Engage in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. Equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Contribute to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Align nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Maintain knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP).You will support and assist with patient care, dedicating at least 60% of your time to clinical functions. Examples of support include, but are not limited to, serving as charge nurse, in direct patient care assignment, facilitating breaks and lunches by assuming patient care coverage, and functioning as a resource for clinical staff. ANM is responsible for assisting the NM with personnel on the unit who they do not directly supervise; expectations may include but are not limited to: Drafting schedules and leave for final approval by the NM Assisting with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment Applying clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice. The ANM assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of unit-based Nursing programs and goals. These are congruent with the service mission, philosophy, policies and procedures and the Standards of Nursing Care and Practice. There are 9 major responsibilities of the Assistant Nurse Manager: Assists the Nurse Manager in managing patient care operation at the unit level. Role models collaborative leadership and communicates effectively. Monitors quality of patient care and nursing practice. Develops and/or provides education for staff to meet specific patient care needs. Participates in the unit-based staffing methodology activities. Complies with Organizational Expectations. Participates heavily in unit resource/equipment utilization and management. Assures compliance with standards and regulations related to clinical practice through audits, data collection, interpretation, and reporting of findings with appropriate recommendations including VANOD and other nurse sensitive data bases. Assures that customers are treated in a professional manner with tact, courtesy, and respect. Other duties as assigned. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4 pm; may require rotating evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
