The (LPN/LVN) also performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. INFORMATION SECURITY: The employee protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the privacy act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. He/she protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. He/she follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as described in the computer use agreement the employee has signed. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The incumbent practices good customer service in all work activities. Must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. Makes caring for the veteran his/her priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work. The incumbent is willing to work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments. Major Responsibilities and Duties. Functions of Assigned Duties: (must be unit specific to the area assigned) Nursing Practice/Technical Competence 1. Administers medications accurately and promptly under the general supervision of a registered nurse. 2. Demonstrates understanding of the effects and/or reactions caused by medications, treatments, and procedures. Records and reports these observations. 3. Performs personal care, diagnostic support, duties, and treatments according to procedures under the direction of the professional nurse in a timely manner. 4. Completes assignments in a timely manner with constructive utilization of remaining time. Observation, Reporting and Documentation 1. Identifies changes in patient's condition, both physical and emotional 2. Participates in Primary Care Team Meetings Maintaining a Safe and Therapeutic Environment 1. Maintains a safe, clean, therapeutic, environment and adheres to infection control guidelines. 2. Prevents injury to self and others by complying with established safety procedures and uses proper body mechanics and transfer techniques. 3. Participates in accomplishing unit maintenance tasks which include checking equipment to ensure that is functioning safely. 4. Practices proper technique during sterile procedures. 5. Demonstrates safe work habits, identifies, and immediately reports any unsafe conditions to the registered nurse. 6. Identifies any life-threatening environmental hazards immediately, takes appropriate action, and reports findings to the registered nurse. Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
