Nurse Manager (Perioperative)

The Bronx VAMC is looking for a Perioperative Nurse Manager. The Nurse Manager demonstrates the fundamental knowledge of the unit and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.

• The nurse manager validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and participating in process improvement initiatives. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. The NM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures {SOP). The incumbent meets the needs of the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran's representative, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff and other customers while supporting VA missions. The incumbent consistently communicates and treats the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran representatives, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff, and other customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. The incumbent provides the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran's representative, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff, and other customers with consistent information according to establish policies and procedures. The incumbent handles conflict and problems in dealing with any consumer group appropriately and in a constructive manner.
