  • The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Registered Nurse for our new Short Stay Behavioral Neighborhood in Extended Care Service. The Extended Care Service Staff Nurse is a Professional Nurse with broad-based clinical knowledge enabling him/her to effectively implement health promotion, disease prevention, and management for adult or older adult residents requiring skilled Nursing interventions in a long term care setting. Staff Nurses typically provide care for residents with complex, mixed chronic medical and/or psychiatric conditions, residents with cognitive impairments, and residents who are terminally ill. The Staff Nurse utilizes the Nursing process when assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting Nursing care provided. He/she works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team when planning and providing care to Nursing Home residents and their families. The Staff Nurse functions independently as a charge Nurse on the unit, organizing and delegating care activities to other RNs, LPNs, and NAs and providing feedback to the Nurse Manager regarding the practice of others in order to improve care. He/she may either direct the care of other Staff members or provide direct patient care depending on the needs of the unit. The Staff Nurse participates in Quality Improvement activities in the Medical Center with the objective of improving patient care outcomes. He/she takes an active role in identifying his/her own educational needs and continually updating clinical skills.
