This Registered Nurse-Clinical Nurse Educator position is located in Nursing, Hospital Education at the VA Connecticut Healthcare Systems, located in West Haven, CT. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.

  • The Clinical Nurse Educator Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing expert, evidenced-based education to staff. This position provides instruction and training for nursing staff in the intensive care unit and all clinical nursing areas. Assist with the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and development and implementation of a learning plan for improving identified clinical deficiencies. Duties include but are not limited to: Experience with continuing education program development and evaluation Ability to monitor and support both new and experienced nurses Serve as BLS and/or ACLS Instructor Serve as a facility Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) Trainer Preferred Experience: At least three years of recent critcal care nursing experience Master's degree in Nursing or Nursing Education Previous experience as a nurse educator, clinical instructor, or staff development instructor Demonstrated skill in curriculum development and educational program evaluation Certification as a Nurse Educator (CNE) preferred Proficient in use of simulation and educational technologies Experience with quality improvement or patient safety initiatives VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 07:30am - 4:-00pm with rotation to off-shift Compressed/Flexible: Not eligible. In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Excepted Service. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
