The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking a Full-Time, Advanced Practice Nurse - Nurse Practitioner - Health Informatics to join the Chief of Staff Service Line at the VAMC in Iowa City, Iowa. Note: This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT through December 17, 2026. The first referral cut-off is September 22, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST, followed by weekly cut offs. The NP has expertise in health informatics (HI) and health information technology. The incumbent is expected to be a strong agent for change and must demonstrate an ability to understand the needs of their professional counterparts, demonstrate understanding of the organizational structure, and the role that informatics plays across the enterprise. The Informaticist should demonstrate the following core informatics functions at the intermediate to advanced proficiency level to include content management, application support, health information technology system optimization, enterprise data management, business architecture management, partnership management, requirements management, and change management. The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients. Clinical duties and responsibilities of the position: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management. Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Order and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Initiates referrals and consults on specialty services. Provides education to patients and their families. Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
