The Registered Nurse (RN) - Acute Care (AC) is responsible for practicing in a role that is inclusive of direct care provider, educator, administrator, researcher, consultant, leader, and advocate. The incumbent of this position uses assessment data to determine diagnoses, solve problems, and address other concerns on the 400A/AC unit. This RN will evaluate the progress toward achieving the expected goal and outcomes, adjusting the plan as necessary.

• The Registered Nurse (RN) - Acute Care (AC) is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care on unit 400A/AC. The RN in this role assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. The RN - AC is also responsible for the following duties: Performing customary nursing care for clinically complex patient populations. Administering medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Monitoring intravenous (IV) fluid therapy and blood transfusions, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and carrying out other procedures, per established policies and guidelines. Providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. Partnering with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum. Participating in discharge rounding and providing clinically relevant information to the interdisciplinary team. Performing discharge instruction to include: disease specific information, diet, physical activity, effects of medications, and future appointments/referrals.. Assessing the patient's ability to learn and evaluating the patient's understanding of all education provided during hospitalization and discharge. Providing patient health education to patients and families with regard to current treatment, health issues, and patient/family concerns in accordance with the educational level of the patient/family members. Influencing outcomes on the unit by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Other duties, as assigned. Nursing care ranges from basic nursing care to initial stabilization care.
