DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, TX. MEDVAMC is seeking an outstanding junior or higher-ranked stroke-certified neurologist to join the Neurology Care Line. Houston is a DNV-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and has expanded its services significantly in the last few years. State-of-the-art stroke care is available, including 24/7 access to acute stroke treatment, advanced imaging techniques, thrombolysis, and thrombectomy. MEDVAMC supports stroke education through residency and fellowship programs associated with Baylor College of Medicine. Teaches residents, fellows and medical students Contributes to the Neurology Service as an attending in stroke clinic, general neurology clinic, and inpatient service. Complete H&P, consults, and discharge summaries promptly. Assesses the needs and planning intervention for adult eligible patients and their families (where applicable). Facilities the delivery of care as expected from a stroke subspecialist and a general neurologist (when applicable). Performs initial histories and physical examinations. Orders appropriate diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, CT scans, MRIs, PET scans, EEFs, EMGs, and other electrodiagnostic tests. Performs and supervises lumbar punctures as needed. Performs specialty specific scales such as: MMSE/MOCA, NPI, GDS as appropriate. Exercises medical decision-making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic service for a specific group of patients.
