The Dialysis RN located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center is a professional nurse who provides specialized care for patients experiencing acute renal failure, chronic kidney disease, and end-stage renal disease. This role requires clinical expertise in both acute and chronic hemodialysis and a preference for experience in peritoneal dialysis (PD). The nurse will participate in both scheduled and emergent dialysis care, including call coverage for emergent hemodialysis and PD services.

  • Duties include, but are not limited to: Functions as primary nurse for End-Stage renal disease (ESRD) patient panel and serves as key resource assisting patients navigate the healthcare system. Specialized knowledge and demonstrates advanced beginner skills when providing and directing care for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and late-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) Completes documentation for all clinical and technical recordkeeping in the electronic health record and treatment flowsheets in accordance with established policies and procedures. Monitors, tracks/trends, and reports ongoing care continuity needs and outcomes to the interdisciplinary team. Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems with measurable outcomes. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
