This position is part of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System. It combines Knowledge Translation Specialist (60%) and Supervisory Rehabilitation Counselor (40%) responsibilities to support the STAR Program, CVHCS's Intensive Evaluation and Treatment Program. As a Knowledge Translation Specialist (KTS), the position supports continuous learning and coordinated care across Polytrauma programs.

  • Major duties include, but not limited to the following: Administrative Duties - KTS and Supervisory (60%) Leads the design, documentation, and implementation of program evaluation projects for the STAR program. Collects, analyzes, and reports program data for local and national leadership. Tracks knowledge translation efforts and supports adoption of evidence-based practices. Develops education, training, and communication materials to support clinical practice improvements. Collaborates with national KTS leaders, clinicians, researchers, and program leadership. Oversees vocational rehabilitation services within the STAR Program, including workforce development, vocational interventions, and educational support. Plans, assigns, and reviews staff work, manages schedules and leave, and evaluates performance. Identifies staff training needs and quality improvement opportunities. Manages trainee programs and participates in hiring and peer review processes. Addresses informal employee concerns and coordinates with union representatives as needed. Oversees intake and vocational assessments and authorizes STAR VR service agreements. Ensures compliance with federal and state requirements, develops training materials, and supports implementation of new policies and programs. Clinical Duties (40%) Provides rehabilitation counseling and related services to help Veterans and Service Members within the STAR program achieve employment, education, and independent living goals. Duties include: Supervising other vocational rehabilitation staff assigned to polytrauma programs (to include STAR program). Evaluation and counseling, therapeutic interventions, case coordination, and vocational development. Reviewing medical, psychological, and vocational information to support independence and employability. Assisting Veterans with informed decision-making and identifying suitable employment opportunities. Conducting psychoeducational or therapeutic groups focused on job readiness, soft skills, and life skills.
