Laredo's public health department reaches well past the city limits: its 47 programs and services cover more than 7,300 square miles. The work runs from communicable disease prevention and safe food and water to maternal and child health, clinical care access, and chronic disease and injury prevention, plus what the department calls unique local services, affordable laboratory services and pharmaceutical access.
