Officer Wellness Mental Health Clinician

This position is responsible for providing Wellness program services to sworn and non-sworn staff that are aimed at promoting and preserving emotional and mental health.  Duties involve working closely with sworn staff in the Wellness Unit, in order to implement officer wellness clinical services and programming throughout the department.  This includes working in the field when responding to crime and incident scenes. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Sergeant of the RPD Wellness Unit or other higher-level staff member.   Does related work as required.

This is a Competitive Class position.  The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

• Responds to, and/or meets with sworn members and civilian staff who are in crisis (personal or professional) at their request, or at the request of a peer or supervisor;
• Responds to critical incidents in the field in order to support responding sworn members and civilian staff once crime scenes are cleared by an incident commander;
• Provides appropriate resources and referrals when requested by staff;
• Identifies and evaluates new resources to use as referrals;
• Assists Wellness Unit in developing and providing training department wide to new recruit staff, sworn staff, civilian and supervisory staff;
• Provides consultations and training upon request as part of a peer group;
• Prepares and presents effective presentations;
• Establishes key partnerships with governmental, institutional, and community stakeholders to support the health and wellness of RPD staff.

Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field PLUS three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience providing direct client mental health counseling services involving individual or group therapy;

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field PLUS five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience providing direct client mental health counseling services involving individual or group therapy.
