Summary
Reporting to the Program Manager of Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center, the Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician (LSW, LCSW, LCPC) provides supportive counseling services to individuals impacted by cancer, including patients, survivors, and caregivers.
This role delivers short-term, participant-centered counseling within a community-based setting, focusing on emotional support, coping strategies, and overall well-being. Services include individual counseling and group-based support, including the facilitation of support groups.
The Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician fosters a safe, compassionate, and trauma-informed environment while supporting participants in navigating the emotional and psychosocial impacts of cancer. This role aligns with the mission, vision, and values of Waterford Place and Rush by providing accessible, high-quality behavioral health support.
Responsibilities
- Provides individual counseling sessions to support participants with emotional, psychosocial, and adjustment-related concerns
- Facilitates or co-facilitates support groups for individuals impacted by cancer, including patients, survivors, and caregivers
- Utilizes evidence-informed therapeutic approaches within scope of licensure
- Adapts counseling approach based on participant needs, goals, and comfort level
- Maintains appropriate clinical documentation in accordance with program standards (non-EMR or light documentation model)
- Follows established program protocols for confidentiality, safety, and participant care
- Creates a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment for all participants
- Demonstrates professionalism, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills
- Communicates professionally and respectfully with participants, staff, and community partners as appropriate
- Collaborates with program staff to support a coordinated participant experience
- Provides referrals to external resources or higher levels of care when appropriate
- Maintains awareness of community-based resources to support participant needs
- Participates in team meetings, trainings, and program activities as requested
- Maintains confidentiality of all participant information in accordance with HIPAA and ethical standards
- Works independently with minimal supervision
Other Information
Required Job Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related behavioral health field
- Current Illinois license in good standing (LSW, LCSW, or LCPC)
- Experience providing counseling or behavioral health support services
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and clinical judgment skills
- Ability to work independently and maintain professional boundaries
- Knowledge of confidentiality standards, ethics, and professional practice guidelines
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Experience working with cancer patients, survivors, or individuals with chronic health conditions
- Experience in grief support, adjustment to illness, or trauma-informed care
- Experience facilitating support groups or psychoeducational group programming
- Familiarity with community-based or nonprofit service models
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
