Job Summary

Under the direction of the practitioner, maintains examination rooms, interacts with patients, obtains clinical history, and performs tests as directed by the practitioner. Assures completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, assures smooth patient flow, administers injections, instructs patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs, and ensures medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner. This position also aids in providing efficient and effective phlebotomy services. Confirms the accuracy of demographic information, accurately interprets physician orders, and reliably collects and labels various specimens from patients.

Service location may vary depending on the individual's needs and may be performed in a clinic, the community, or the individual's home.

Minimum Job Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent.
• Valid Indiana Licensed Practical Nursing license.
• Graduate of licensed practical nursing program with certification.
• BLS certification or must obtain duirng Orientation and prior to reporting to department.
• Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
• Dependable transportation with ability to travel between healthcare facilities, community locations, and patient homes as required by the position.

Preferred Job Requirements

• One year LPN experience preferred

• Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, providers and other hospital personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage.
• Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
• Developed computer skills and the ability to learn and proficiently perform patient care applications, echarting, email and other standards applications related to the department operations and job function.
• Excellent customer service skills with special emphasis on patient centered care.
• Ability to promote compassion and a therapeutic environment.
• Basic working understanding of the concepts of infection control principles to prevent the spread of infection to patients, self and others.
• Ability to react appropriately to any environment or situation.
• Ability to manage several assignments simultaneously and appropriately prioritize based on caseload and patient needs.
• Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.

Working Conditions

• Typical clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
• Work subject to interruptions.
• Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious, electrical and radiation hazards.
• Works with protected health information.
• Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, based on the needs of the practice and flexibility to work at other practice locations.

Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment

• Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
• Uses computer and other standard office equipment.
• Uses patient care tools and equipment as they relate to area of clinical specialty.
