The Supervisory Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) serves as a first-level supervisor responsible for the oversight of SPS staff in the Sterile Processing Services (SPS) within the Phoenix VA Health Care System.
- Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Typical duties include but are not limited to: Monitoring quality assurance in the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, reprocessing, and distribution of surgical instruments. Monitoring the technical equipment used in SPS, ensuring proper procedures are followed and the items are safe for use. Ensuring national sterile processing standards are adhered to by staff in the process of cleaning/decontamination, sterilization, reprocessing, and distribution. Ensuring staff is competent for reprocessing critical and semi-critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). Recommending promotions, reassignments, recognition of superior performance, retention or release of probationary employees or other changes of assigned personnel. Resolving informal complaints of employees and deals with union representatives on personnel matters. This position may be assigned to work as needed on other than normal working tours of duty or shifts, either in the evenings or on weekends. The incumbent will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as required by this position. Required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position. Supervising assigned employees. Evaluates the performance of the employee using counseling techniques, the mid-point and annual appraisals. Developing and administering an overall training plan for the section. The incumbent will work as the Lead team member with other Medical Supply Technicians of various experience to carry out the daily work utilizing the written standard operating procedures and/or manufactures written instructions in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted/standard practices. The supervisor evaluates completed work for overall technical soundness and conformance to agency policies through competency assessment utilizing simulation, direct observation and verbal responses from the incumbent. Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 11:30 P.M. - 7: 30 A.M. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): May be authorized for highly qualified candidate at service discretion.
