The Laboratory Scientist in this position provides laboratory analytical support for the Clinical Chemistry Section. The Clinical Chemistry Section provides analysis of human specimens and biological samples of epidemiological importance for persistent and non-persistent organic pollutants, heavy metals, other environmental contaminants, and metabolites of chemical warfare agents. The incumbent carries out a full range of professional laboratory scientist assignments involving the analysis of human specimens, environmental and biological samples involving gas chromatography mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, and other laboratory methodologies, including the review of data and reporting of results. The Laboratory Scientist in this position helps in the implementation of methods development and validation and is responsible for following validation plans, validation summary reports, and reviewing written laboratory procedures, practices, and policies.

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, forensic science, or a related pure or applied science.
 
Experience

Laboratory Scientist 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Laboratory Scientist 10
One year of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests, analyses, or production and research activities involving chemical, biochemical and biological samples, specimens, and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 9.
 
Laboratory Scientist P11
Two years of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests, analyses, or production and research activities involving chemical, biochemical and biological samples, specimens, and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist, including one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 10.

The preferred and appointed candidate will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and/or alcohol testing.  



Position Location/Remote Office: This is an in-person position; the physical location of this position is 3350 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Lansing, MI. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
