The Mental Health Substance Use Disorder Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. He/she assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on Mental Health (MH) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) specific components.
- This position is open ONLY TO current and permanent employees of the Huntington, WV VA Medical Center. The Mental Health (MH) substance use disorder (SUD) Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and leading competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. Duties include, but are not limited to: Assists in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. He/she gains awareness of the principles and goals of residential MH SUD by understanding practices related to patient-centered care, recovery-oriented principles, and self-awareness related to caring for patients living with substance use disorder and/or MH conditions. Provides direct patient care including substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and clinical support. Provides acute and routine psychiatric assessment and intervention for a variety of psychosocial, SUD, and medical concerns and assists the MH SUD RRTP staff in developing a recovery-based plan of care for the patient. Facilitates nurse-led psychoeducational groups, uses therapeutic communication techniques, practices de-escalation techniques, utilizes recovery-oriented language, and provides oversight of the patient safe medication management program. They also facilitate/participate shift report and warm hand-off, MH SUD RRTP interdisciplinary treatment team, environment of care rounds, and identifies and reports psychiatric and medical care needs and emergencies as directed. He/she identifies safety concerns and hazardous items to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment of care, and documents nursing assessments, risk screens, nursing plan of care, patient safety rounds, and environmental of care rounds in accordance with facility policy. Other duties as assigned.
