This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major Duties: Inpatient Consultation and Liaison Services: Conduct brief psychological assessments and diagnostic evaluations for inpatient medical patients, including cognitive screenings and determining need for neuropsychological or dementia evaluations. Provide brief, evidence-based psychological interventions tailored to inpatients with medical and co-occurring mental health conditions. Assess and consult on patient capacity/competency for medical decision-making and independent living. Deliver crisis intervention services, including suicide risk assessments, safety planning, and evaluation for involuntary holds. Serve as an interdisciplinary team member, offering psychological expertise to medical, nursing, and other clinical staff. Educate and support patients, families, and caregivers on psychological concerns, coping, and treatment options. Maintain timely, accurate documentation in compliance with VA standards. MH Access Clinic Responsibilities: Provide same-day/walk-in coverage for patients entering mental health services. Conduct brief needs assessments and suicide risk screenings. Develop treatment plans, determine disposition, and refer patients across the MH continuum of care. Provide brief episodes of care and assist with follow-up for high-risk or recently discharged patients. Academic/Teaching/Research: Provide consultation and training on common mental and behavioral health conditions. Supervise psychology interns, fellows, and practicum students. Teach seminars or workshops for trainees and staff. Participate in the Psychology Training Committee. Conduct approved psychological research individually or in collaboration. Option to apply for faculty appointment at UT Health San Antonio. Administrative/Program Evaluation/Outcome Measurement: Follow operational policies and procedures for treatment teams. Coordinate with other health care programs to ensure continuity of services. Assist with programming across mental health services as needed. Meet national and local performance measures, including screenings and clinical reminders. Serve on Psychology or Mental Health Service committees or work groups. Comply with CPRS documentation standards, including timely notes, coding, and patient checkout.
