Duties include but are not limited to the following: The staff Vascular Surgeon is also responsible for keeping abreast of new developments, maintaining board certification in vascular surgery, and teaching residents and students in the operating room, intensive care unit, ward and vascular clinic. The role of the staff vascular surgeon is to provide care to patients with disorders of the arterial and venous circulation, exclusive of the cardiopulmonary circulation. This includes consultative services, nonoperative management, open surgical procedures, and endovascular procedures, both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. List of major duties and responsibilities of the position: Reviewing and providing consultations promptly Seeing new outpatients with nonemergent problems within 30 days Seeing impatient consultations and patients with urgent conditions promptly Patient transfer request Evaluate and response promptly by direct communication with referring providers and transfer coordinators at CGVAMC Evaluate outpatient in; The Vascular Surgery clinic and Vascular surgery post operative clinic Work with wound therapy nurses in inpatient and outpatient settings Read and interpret studies generated in the Noninvasive Laboratory promptly Prepare patient for operative management Demonstrate the ability to diagnose and treat vascular surgery patients. Inpatient and Outpatient Clinic consultation and follow-up, admission History and Physicals, preoperative evaluations, surgery posting notes, orders, operative notes and reports, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Assume primary responsibility for admissions and patients under their care. These activities may be supervised and coordinated with residents/fellows/midlevels/students if they are present on service. Maintain RPVI credential or equivalent - read and complete studies generated by the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory within 72 hours of creation. Develop and provide medical education/counseling of patients and their families with a focus on delivery of evidence based, outcomes focused, veteran centric care. This includes addressing goals of care and code status, as indicated. Promote contemporary patient care programs for vascular surgery patients and periodically review and update them based upon current and/or new, broadly accepted concepts.
