Central Alabama VA HCS is seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as the Nurse IV Associate Chief Nurse for Patient Care Service (ADPCS) Department located in Tuskegee, AL. The Nurse IV Associate Chief Nurse (ACN) executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross services and/or discipline lines and, influence the organizational healthcare mission

  • Major duties: Executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influences organizational mission and health care. The ACN participates in clinical and environmental rounds to evaluate organizational care delivery identifying opportunities for program improvement, effectiveness, and to assess the therapeutic milieu and safety in clinical areas. The ACN collaborates with other hospital service chiefs and medical staff leadership to ensure safe and efficient patient care and participates in policy development related to professional nursing practice on community, regional, and national levels. Specific practice settings or communities of care, for direct administrative assignment include the acute care settings of inpatient psych care, outpatient Behavioral Health, CBOCs, Methadone Clinics, Tele-health medicine, Homelessness programs and other programs as assigned. Responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidenced-based treatment and standards of practice. Serves as a consultant to facility leadership and Service Chiefs on matters of inpatient, outpatient, and residential mental health nursing to include policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as the interpretation of Service-specific VHA Directives and Handbooks. Responsible for assessing and determining staffing levels using NHPPD or other models in areas not yet under NHPPD, managing overtime, and plays a significant role in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Ensures competency assessment is completed on each nursing employee annually. Reviews SAIL, Performance Measures, and other data for trends and early intervention; formulates follow-up plans with Nurse Executive Team, Nurse Managers, the service, and the Healthcare System. Represents service line and Patient Care Services on designated Healthcare System Committees and VISN level committees as needed. Collaborates with facility Suicide Prevention Coordinator to develop training for nursing staff on suicide risk assessment, safety plans, standard operating procedure for transfer of Veterans to a higher level of care. Collaborates with Chief of Mental Health, Chief of Facility Management Services, and Associate Director for Patient Care Services and the Nurse Executive team to lead planning and implementation on nursing care logistics with the Mental Health Program and physical space, including the treatment room. Reports directly to the Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services and covers in their absence as designated.
