Come Join Our Team! Specialty Care is looking for a Physician - Gastroenterologist. Gastroenterologists are responsible for the evaluation of all new GI consults both inpatient and outpatient, with appropriate responses provided to the consulting party (including treatment plans, if applicable) within National, VISN, or facility guidelines. Diagnosis and treatment within the scope of the Gastroenterological specialty are required. *NOTE: This is a Temporary Not to Exceed 1 year position.

Intermittent pay will be pro-rated based on actual hours worked. Insurance: Intermittent employees may be eligible Federal health/long-term care (e.g., if expected to work 130 hours per month or more for at least 90 days). Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Duties include but are not limited to: Perform GI Endoscopic procedures in the Endoscopy Suite and/or Operating Room, as scheduled. Procedures to be performed include, but are not limited to, the following: Colonoscopy, Conscious Sedation, Endoscopic Control of Bleeding, Esophageal Dilation - Endoscopic Pneumatic Dilators, Malloney Dilators, Etc., Esophageal Varices Band Ligation, Esophageal Varices Injection Ligation, Esophagogastroduodenoscopy with Biopsy, Heater Probe Coagulation, Liver Biopsy, Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy, Proctoscopy, Sigmoid-Flexible. Proper documentation of workload including completion of consult requests, event capture, or encounter forms is required within the timelines specified by National, VISN, or facility guidelines. Telephonic contact is required in urgent/emergent situations. Appropriate diagnosis and/or treatment may require contact with colleagues at VA or Non-VA facilities. Gastroenterologists will be expected to obtain informed consent as outlined in Salem VAMC MCM 658-11-19 (or most current version) for any and all invasive procedures to be performed. The discussion of the treatment plan with patient and/or family members is required. Each Gastroenterologist shall engage in furthering the education of medical residents, students, and fellows by provision of Grand Rounds presentations, noon lecture series presentation, etc. Each Gastroenterologist is expected to promote and facilitate research amongst both Housestaff and Faculty. Gastroenterologists will participate in national VHA conference calls and audio conferences on issues related to the Gastroenterology Section, the Facility, and any new programs or initiatives affecting the two entities. The incumbent will also participate in any conferences, calls, or meetings related to patient outcomes, customer service, service improvement, or the like, as assigned by supervisory staff. The Gastroenterologist will represent the Section or the Service by serving on committees or task forces, as well as with service to local, state, or national professional service organizations, both inside and outside of the VA (as applicable and assigned). Work Schedule: Intermittent work schedule, typically between Monday - Friday, 7:45am-4:30pm, additional hours at the discretion of Section Chief, participation in third call attending roster is required. Hours based on needs of the service, not to exceed 1820 hours per year.
