Across 4,284 square miles, Imperial County serves about 180,000 residents in seven cities, Brawley, Calexico, El Centro, and Imperial among them, plus eight unincorporated communities. It was the last county established in California, in 1907, and it's the ninth largest in the state by area. That combination makes it small-county government at desert scale: a big footprint, a compact population, and one public employer behind services that run from agriculture to renewable energy oversight.

Two clinical departments hire under the county's name, Behavioral Health Services and Public Health: psychiatric and public health nursing, office support, and peer specialist roles inside a public system.
